Science Analysis Software & Infrastructure for the Legacy Survey of Space & Time
As Rubin operations nears, the need for complete scientific analysis pipelines and science infrastructure is clear. Many different groups in the Rubin community, including Rubin Data Management and the US/Chilean and international science communities, are invested and engaged in preparing analysis software and infrastructure to enable science at LSST scales and complexity. This session will bring together all those working on and interested in LSST software development to achieve our common goals through discussion of infrastructure/science analysis requirements, ongoing activities and – crucially – identification of where resources and/or effort are still needed.
The session is closely aligned with the goals of the newly formed Rubin Software Forum that aims to increase the visibility of software efforts across the community, and to identify shared infrastructure and resources. The LINCC Frameworks team has brought together the community to identify a plethora of cross-cutting use cases, while the recent IDACs workshop discussed the resources that are available and needed and to meet these and other science use cases. The TVS Software Task Force has carried out multiple software development training sessions, based on material developed by Software Carpentry. The session includes presentations from the Rubin Project, science communities and coordination groups to present and review science analysis infrastructure, software best practices, and more, with a goal of initiating discussions that can continue beyond the PCW.
No Recording is Available for this Session.

The National Science Foundation (NSF) and the US Department of Energy (DOE) will support Rubin Observatory in its operations phase to carry out the Legacy Survey of Space and Time. They will also provide support for scientific research with the data. During operations, NSF funding is managed by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy (AURA) under a cooperative agreement with NSF, and DOE funding is managed by SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory (SLAC), under contract by DOE. Rubin Observatory is operated by NSF's National Optical-Infrared Astronomy Research Laboratory (NOIRLab) and SLAC.
NSF is an independent federal agency created by Congress in 1950 to promote the progress of science. NSF supports basic research and people to create knowledge that transforms the future.
We are privileged to conduct research on Cerro Pachón in Chile, and acknowledge the Indigenous communities in Chile as the natural protectors of these lands.
