LSST Discovery Alliance - Helping Scientists use Rubin's LSST

LSST Corporation has been renamed the LSST Discovery Alliance.  The LSST Corporation (LSSTC) was founded in 2003 as a not-for-profit 501(c)3 Arizona corporation to initiate the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope project and to advance the science of astronomy and physics.  For 20 years, LSSTC and our member institutions have led evolving aspects of the design, development, and scientific preparation for LSST.  In 2023, LSSTC is now well-established in its updated role in the Rubin LSST ecosystem:  Supporting Rubin LSST science through private funding and programs that complement NSF’s and DOE’s federal investments in the construction and operations of LSST.  Our renaming to LSST Discovery Alliance celebrates this role, disambiguates our work from Rubin LSST, and clarifies our mission.  Our member community (currently ~30 institutions) remains committed to its longstanding shared values and deep connections to all aspects of Rubin’s LSST.

In 2021, LSST Discovery Alliance launched the LSST Interdisciplinary Network of Collaboration and Computing (LINCC) for the development and funding of programs related to software development (LINCC Frameworks), training (Catalyst Fellowship, Data Science Fellowship Program), and inclusive community building (Expansion Partners Program, Childcare Support Program). Come to this session to learn about Discovery Alliance programs, hear new information on the funded Inclusive Collaboration Initiative, and participate in a breakout discussion of Early Science opportunities and the resources needed to seize those opportunities.
