What's your beef with the hiring process?
Rubin Operations leadership wants to create a hiring process rubric to distribute to hiring managers and committees across the Project and the community. This rubric will serve as a guideline to proper hiring conduct. This session aims to gather real and impactful feedback from participants that have been on either side of the process. The ideas and discussions shared will form the basis of the hiring rubric under development. We will have guided discussions that dig into topics such as equity in the hiring process and barriers that are faced by applicants and hiring committees. There will be space to discuss specific experiences with a hiring process and breakout sessions to dive deeply into exploring solutions for the worst hiring woes.
The National Science Foundation (NSF) and the US Department of Energy (DOE) will support Rubin Observatory in its operations phase to carry out the Legacy Survey of Space and Time. They will also provide support for scientific research with the data. During operations, NSF funding is managed by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy (AURA) under a cooperative agreement with NSF, and DOE funding is managed by SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory (SLAC), under contract by DOE. Rubin Observatory is operated by NSF's National Optical-Infrared Astronomy Research Laboratory (NOIRLab) and SLAC.
NSF is an independent federal agency created by Congress in 1950 to promote the progress of science. NSF supports basic research and people to create knowledge that transforms the future.
We are privileged to conduct research on Cerro Pachón in Chile, and acknowledge the Indigenous communities in Chile as the natural protectors of these lands.
