Testing Synthetic Source Injection on Cell-based Coadds

Abstract: This project will test under what conditions and under what accuracy we can use cell-based coadds to perform SSI and WL image simulation studies. We will compare the typical results of these studies between cell-based coadds and direct end-to-end simulation of the input images. This project will only explore the approximations made by using the cell-coadds and the coadding process itself (e.g., spatially constant PSFs, including interpolation effects from input SE images, etc.). It will not address the effects of errors/residuals in ISR, PSF modeling, astrometry, background subtraction, etc. In other words, we will assume the PSF, astrometry, bad pixel mask, image calibration, and background subtraction are known perfectly.
