The First SCOC-Science Collaborations Workshop (virtual)

December 8-9, 2020, 9AM-1PM Pacific

Goals: The Survey Cadence Optimization Committee (SCOC) is working to formulate a recommendation for the initial survey strategy by December 31, 2021. This initial survey strategy will attempt to optimize as many science programs as possible, while requiring that all four core science themes continue to meet their requirements (approximately, this means perform as well as in the current baseline strategy).

It is important for the SCOC to be able to gather input from across the community, as well as to provide opportunities for the community to comment on survey strategy options. To this end, the SCOC will be soliciting 'Cadence Notes', envisioned as short (1-2 pages) technical notes structured as responses to a set of a few guiding questions regarding the scientific impact of the simulated cadences described in the "Survey Strategy and Cadence Choices for the Vera C. Rubin Observatory Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST)" report (https://pstn-051.lsst.io/). The deadline for submitting these Cadence Notes will be March 15, 2021.

To help the community prepare to write these Cadence Notes, the SCOC and the Project will be hosting a two-day workshop on December 8-9, 2020.

This workshop is designed for stakeholders with a keen interest in helping design and analyze survey strategy options for the LSST, and it is open to the entire LSST user community. We encourage early career researchers to participate in this workshop and note that the recording of a session about survey strategies at the last Project and Community Workshop (Aug 18, 2020) is available as https://ls.st/2020surveystrategy, with detailed supporting material available at https://ls.st/2020materials
