Márcio Catelan Tue 2020-08-11 11:45AM
Good morning everyone, and welcome! My name is Márcio Catelan, and I, together with_ @Emille Ishida , will be one of the chairs of today's RRB session on Transient Classification.

Our program today includes the following short talks and speakers:

1) A spectroscopically-complete sample of bright ZTF transients,_ Daniel Perley
2) The ALeRCE light curve classifier,_ Paula Sánchez Sáez
3) Anomaly detection in ZTF DR3,_ Konstantin Malanchev
4) SuperRAENN: A New Photometric Classifier,_ Ashley Villar

The slide deck is available at_ https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/17O-qCx3d8hg1McV-n6i-VM08Fb_LkVxngRt6irWXiYw/edit?usp=sharing .

To join us on Zoom, please point your browser to_ https://stanford.zoom.us/j/91607410626?pwd=SStNY1BLaDhSKzZLSzhnaG9TRFQ4dz09 .

See you all shortly!
Konstantin Malanchev Tue 2020-08-11 01:20PM
I have problems to join the meeting, it says the host has another meeting
Márcio Catelan Tue 2020-08-11 01:21PM
Yes, me too. We'll try and solve this -- please stay tuned!
Paula Sanchez Saez Tue 2020-08-11 01:29PM
is it working or not yet?
Konstantin Malanchev Tue 2020-08-11 01:30PM
It works now
Márcio Catelan Tue 2020-08-11 01:31PM
Internet is down at my home, but I'm trying to connect using my cell phone. Sorry about that! @Emille Ishida is already there though.
Konstantin Malanchev Tue 2020-08-11 01:31PM
Yes, Emille started the session
David Buckley Tue 2020-08-11 01:39PM
@Daniel Perley How does ZTF and GROWTH interact in terms of transient followup?
Daniel Perley Tue 2020-08-11 01:59PM
This was answered in the stream, but for the benefit of anyone not in the session: GROWTH is a consortium that participates in ZTF for follow-up of gravitational wave events (as well as follow-up of some non-ZTF transients). The ZTF partnership (and extended collaboration) has its own internal structure, with different leads/groups devoted to different science areas - SNE, variables, TDEs, etc.

@here new transition time 11:15am due to technical difficulties
Márcio Catelan Tue 2020-08-11 01:52PM
Great, thanks!
Paula Sanchez Saez Tue 2020-08-11 02:02PM
Here is the link to the ALeRCE light curve classifier paper: https://arxiv.org/abs/2008.03311
In case you want to take a look
Márcio Catelan Tue 2020-08-11 02:15PM
Resuming in one minute!
Monika Soraisam Tue 2020-08-11 02:28PM
@Konstantin Malanchev can you explain a little bit how the anomaly algorithm is implemented? What ML tools are you using?
Konstantin Malanchev Tue 2020-08-11 02:44PM
We extracted features from the light curves and used "standard" (available in scikit =) anomaly detection algorithms which are looking for objects in sparse regions of a feature space
Monika Soraisam Tue 2020-08-11 02:30PM
@Daniel Perley what's the accuracy of classification done with SEDM?
Michelle Lochner (she/her) Tue 2020-08-11 02:32PM
@Ashley Villar (she) Did you use the redshift information (photometric or otherwise)?
Michelle Lochner (she/her) Tue 2020-08-11 02:37PM
Márcio Catelan Tue 2020-08-11 02:37PM
Thank you very much to all the speakers and participants, and apologies once again for our technical difficulties!
Konstantin Malanchev Tue 2020-08-11 02:41PM

Check out the new ALeRCE DB, since the results you used were obtained with an old version of the LC classifier. You can see links to access the new DB here http://alerce.science/lsst-pcw-2020/
Konstantin Malanchev Tue 2020-08-11 03:08PM
Thank you!
Konstantin Malanchev Tue 2020-08-11 03:10PM
Should we use this site? http://dev.alerce.online
Paula Sanchez Saez Tue 2020-08-11 03:12PM
Yes, currently is not reporting updated classifications. We are just working on that now. Probably in a week or two you can see the real-time classifications. For the moment you can see the data obtained by 2020/06/09
