Welcome to LSST: A Basic Introduction

Submitted by mgraham on Tue, 05/28/2019 - 18:37
This session is primarily targeted at graduate students, postdocs, and staff members who are new to the LSST, but everyone, including undergraduate students and any staff looking for a refresher on LSST-related science and technology, are very welcome to attend. Emphasis will be placed on LSST-specific basic concepts and technical terms in order to establish a common ground for your conversations and networking activities during the PCW. There will be time for Q&A with Project staff. Please contact session organizer Melissa Graham [mlg3k AT uw DOT edu] with questions or suggestions, or if you'd like to contribute content to this session.

The slide deck in development for this session can be viewed here [1].

The agenda will include:
1. The PCW: how do decide which sessions to attend?
2. LSST Communications Resources
3. LSST Project 101s: project structure, telescope and site, camera, data management, education and public outreach, and systems integration
4. LSST Science 101: core science goals and concepts, documentation, and the role of science collaborations
