Dear Science Community Members,

The LSST 2016 Project and Community Workshop is coming up*, and we on the organizing committee have been thinking of ways to make this meeting especially productive and engaging for the community. Towards that end, we will be curating breakout sessions based on suggestions designed by YOU. Read on to find out more!

The meeting sessions consist of three elements: plenary talks, breakout sessions, and an unconference (for your reference, a current block agenda is available here). The Community plenary talks will be of broad interest to the scientific community, selected to be useful and informative both to newcomers and those familiar with LSST. For the breakout sessions, we invite you to participate in active session development using the LSST Community Forum**: https://community.lsst.org/c/sci/pcw-2016. As breakout ideas take shape, we will match developed sessions with the available meeting spaces. This forum is a great opportunity to find out who amongst our ever-growing community shares your interests and concerns, and to work with them to design the meeting you'd like to attend! As new ideas or needs for extended conversations arise over the course of the meeting, they can be accommodated on the fly during the unconference (read more about how unconferences work here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unconference).

We hope you will join us in Tucson for an exciting meeting full of valuable discussions! As always, please feel free to be in touch with any questions you might have.

Lucianne Walkowicz, on behalf of the LSST 2016 Project and Community Workshop organizing committee
