Active Galactic Nucleus Variability

Active galactic nuclei (AGN) refers to the existence of energetic phenomena in the central portions, or nuclei, of galaxies which cannot be attributed to stars alone.  AGN host the most powerful energy sources in the Universe and are some of the most distant cosmic objects observed. LSST observations of AGN will make significant contributions to the information we have about these remarkable objects.  For more information, check wikipedia or the Teach Astronomy pages on AGN.
